Middle East and North Africa Community Support Award
Has your shopping center served a pressing need in its community, or do you know one that has?
The ICSC Foundation Middle East and North Africa Community Support Award recognizes and promotes the most outstanding examples of social responsibility by shopping centers in the region. The winner will be entered into the Albert Sussman International Community Support Award competition which will be announced at next year’s RECon.
Tree of Life
The ICSC Foundation is proud to present the Lals Group with the 2016 Middle East and North Africa Community Support Award for its outstanding “Tree of Life” campaign, which took place at the Arabian Center in Dubai.
Lals Group launched the “Tree of Life” campaign to aid and raise awareness for hundreds of orphaned children in Dubai. The Arabian Center formed a strategic partnership with the Red Crescent Society, which carries out Red Cross operations on a systematic basis throughout the UAE, and The Family Village, a foster home foundation that supports orphans in Dubai. The shopping center set up multiple donation boxes, promotional materials and a symbolic “Tree of Life” in high-traffic locations throughout the property. The resulting “Tree of Life” campaign encouraged the local community to donate money, clothes, toys, books and more to hundreds of children in need. For each donation, a lamp was lit and hung on the Tree of Life, signifying that a child’s life had been affected in a positive way.
