GROUND BROKEN FOR COLORADO MILLS

The Mills Corp. broke ground this spring on Colorado Mills, its 1.2 million-square-foot retail and entertainment center in Lakewood, Colo., 10 miles west of downtown Denver.

Construction on the $250 million "shoppertainment’’ center started in late April. It is located on 130 acres and will feature an outdoor component called "E Street’’ with restaurants and other entertainment sites. It could potentially have offices, apartments and condos built on top of the retail.

Partnering in Colorado Mills is Greg Stevinson, president of Denver West Realty, and Kan Am, Mills’ longtime German investment partner.

Bookend anchors will be Off 5th, the Saks Fifth Avenue outlet store, and Last Call from Neiman Marcus, a consolidation of marked-down merchandise from the upscale retailer’s 32 stores nationwide. Both will occupy 35,000 square feet of space.

The mall will feature 200 tenants when it opens in the fall of 2002.
