Simon Property Group hired Nancy L. Gilbert, CMD, as director of mall marketing for Roosevelt Field Mall, in Garden City, N.Y. Gilbert was a regional marketing director for New York City-based Vornado Realty Trust.

Inland Real Estate Investment Corp., Oak Brook, Ill., recruited Michael J. O’Hanlon as senior vice president and director of asset management. O’Hanlon was executive vice president and regional managing director of Chicago-based Grubb & Ellis.

Henri Fonvielle, who has 17 years of experience in the shopping center industry, has led a team of leasing professionals to The Rappaport Cos., McLean, Va. Fonvielle joins Rappaport Cos. as executive vice president. Fonvielle was a senior vice president at Charles E. Smith Commercial Realty, Washington, D.C., which owns and manages commercial real estate. Bill Dickson joins Rappaport Cos. as senior director of retail brokerage, and Melissa Webb comes aboard as director of retail brokerage.

Lowell K. Vice joined Edens & Avant, Columbia, S.C., as vice president of information solutions. He was vice president and chief information officer of Turner Industries, Baton Rouge, La.

Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers, Memphis, Tenn., hired Scott Kern, David M. Lawrence and Christopher R. Wichman as development managers. Lawrence was director of construction and new development at Tri-Star Realty Partners, in Houston; Wichman was a senior project manager for EMJ Corp., in Chattanooga, Tenn.; and Kern was a project manager for Third Works, in San Diego.

Lake Elsinore (Calif.) Outlets recruited Cathy Lester as marketing and special events manager. Lester was a marketing representative for The Promenade in Temecula (Calif.).

The Staubach Co. promoted Clay Smith to president of brokerage services in the retail division. Smith joined the company in 2001 and was executive vice president and managing principal for the central region.

Charles H. McNamee was named senior vice president of retail construction at Colonial Properties Trust, Birmingham, Ala. McNamee joined Colonial Properties Trust in 1999 and was vice president of retail construction.

Trademark Property Co., of Forth Worth, Texas, brought in Dana Hansen as executive vice president of lifestyle leasing. Hansen was a regional vice president of leasing at Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers.

Charles Conston, who built a small retailing business into a chain of several hundred stores, died April 8. He was 85. Conston added several brands to a small chain of dress shops run by his parents in Camden, N.J., including the Charles, Famous Maid, Kristy’s Korner and 16 Plus names. By the time Conston Corp. filed for an initial public offering in 1986, it was running about 300 stores. In 1990 the company agreed to a $5.1 million buyout offer from Cascade International, a Boca Raton, Fla., retailer. “Charles was a pioneer among the ladies’ wear chain operators,” said Norman M. Kranzdorf, a senior vice president of retail at Urdang Capital Management, Plymouth Meet ing, Pa., “and was a gentleman … to do business with.”
