The retail real estate business, which often sees whole families among its prominent figures, just attracted another set of kin: the Whittingtons. Keely Whittington Reyes and her sister, Nerissa Whittington, who run The Gulfstream Group, Albuquerque, N.M., broke into the shopping center business with the purchase of the Santa Fe (N.M.) Outlets last December. Gulfstream says it plans to boost the 122,000-square-foot center’s occupancy and eventually expand it. “We decided it would be a fun project, compared to some of the office space we had been doing,” said Keely. The Whittingtons launched Gulfstream fresh out of high school and ran it part time while attending college. Today the sisters are in their early 30s. The group owns about 1 million square feet of office, retail, residential and spa space in New Mexico and Colorado.
