WINNING CENTER DESIGNS CAPTURE EURO AWARDS

ICSC presented its annual European Shopping Centre Awards in April, during the 28th annual ICSC European Conference, in Budapest, Hungary.

The top Design Award for refurbishment went to the Breuningerland Ludwigsburg center, Stuttgart, Germany, owned and developed by E. Breuninger GmbH & Co., Stuttgart.

A “Commendation” under this category was conferred on Marcus Platz Plus City, Pasching, Austria, a center owned and developed by Plus City Betriebsgesellschaft M.B.H & Co., KG, Pasching.

“Certificates of Nomination” were given to: Emmen Center, Lucerne, Switzerland, owned by Maus Frères SA, Geneva; Luisencenter, Darmstadt, Germany, owned by Hammerson GmbH, Berlin; and Koch I Glasshuset, Bödo, Norway, owned by Kvartal II DA, Bödo.

A Design Award under the “specialized centers” category went to Plaza Mayor, Málaga, Spain, owned by Sonae Imobiliária, Lisbon, Portugal. The Design Award for new centers (small) was given to Centre Commercial Les Passages de l’Hotel de Ville, Boulogne-Billancourt, France, owned and developed by Ségécé, Paris.

Judges awarded a Commendation to Espace Jaures, Brest, France, owned by Fonciere Cezanne Matignon and developed by Altarea, Paris. A Certificate of Nomination in this category was conferred on Les Quatre Chemins, Vichy, France, owned and developed by Amstelland MDC NV, Nieuwegein, the Netherlands.

For new medium centers, Altmarkt-Galerie Dresden (Germany) won the Design Award. Altmarkt-Galerie’s owner is Dresden-based Altmarkt-Galerie Dresden KG, and the developer was ECE Projektmanagement, Hamburg, Germany.

Judges gave a Commendation to Fiumara Centro Commerciale, Genoa, Italy, owned by Aareal Europe Fund No. 1 SA, Luxembourg, and developed by Coopsette S.C.A.R.L., Castelnovo Sotto, Italy. The Certificate of Nomination for this category went to Spandau (Germany) Arcaden, which is owned by DIFA Grundstuecksges, mbH & Co., KG, Hamburg. The project’s developer was MFI Management für Immobilien AG, Essen, Germany.

In the large-centers category, the award went to TresAguas-Alcorcón, Madrid, Spain, owned and developed by Paseo Comercial Carlos III (a joint venture between Lend Lease Europe and Juan Alonso). A Commendation was given to Almada Forum, Lisbon, Portugal, owned by CGI, Wiesbaden, Germany, and developed by MDC International SA, Alges, Portugal.

Certificates of Nomination went to two centers: Bonaire-Aldaia, Valencia, Spain, owned by Riofisa, Madrid, developed by Riofisa and Rodamco España, Madrid; and Centre Commercial Carré Sénart, Lieusaint, France, owned by Unibail, Paris, developed by Espace Expansion, Paris.

The jury was made up of Arcadio Gil Pujol, managing director of LaSBA, Madrid; Einar Aakeroy, a partner at Arkitektkontoret Aakeroy, Moe & Bowe AS, Oslo; Friedel Kellerman, executive partner at RKW Architects, Düsseldorf, Germany; Jaap Gillis, managing director, AM Development, Gouda, the Netherlands; Marco de Stefani, partner, Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker, Bologna, Italy; and Carol Wright, partner, Property Market Analysis, London.

The winners of the annual Jean-Louis Solal Awards for marketing programs in Europe were: Plaza Mayor; Bruun’s Galleri, Århus, Denmark; All Sonae Malls throughout Portugal; Bluewater, London; Meadowhall, Sheffield, England; and Centro Oberhausen [Germany].
