WEB CLASS OFFERED

Professionals who can’t get to ICSC’s John T. Riordan School for Professional Development can let the school get to them.

This spring ICSC launched “eDistance Learning,” a Web-based self-study program modeled after the Management I and II institutes. “This is either for people who can’t get to the school, or for companies with a number of people [they wish to educate] and can’t send them all,” said Gregg A. McCort, SCMD, ICSC’s director of education.

The first course went online in April. The curriculum covers nine units: management overview, retailing, insurance and risk management, the lease and its language, leasing strategies, marketing, finance, maintenance and security.

Users log on to the system with an identification number and password. Each unit begins with a video presentation by an ICSC School faculty member and includes multiple-choice exams. An hour-long exam at the end of the unit helps the student gauge how well the material has been absorbed.

Tuition for ICSC members is $495; for nonmembers, it’s $1,095. Discounts are available for multiple students from the same company. The fee covers textbooks and use of the Web site for a year. The course counts for 2.5 credits toward the CSM, CMD, CLS, ASM and AMD designations. The next course is set for Nov. 1.
