STUDY PAYS OFF, SAYS BARRY DAVIS SCHOLAR

What has Erica Bazzano, winner of the first Barry M. Davis Memorial Next Generation Educational Scholarship, learned so far? That the relationships she has forged through her scholarship-funded ICSC education program are as valuable as the professional training itself.

“I’ve met some wonderful people I’m planning on keeping in touch with,” said Bazzano, corporate accounting manager of The Hutensky Group, Hartford, Conn.

The scholarship, awarded to Bazzano last December, covers the costs of tuition, books and travel for courses at the John T. Riordan School for Professional Development. In April Bazzano completed the first level of course work in Scottsdale, Ariz. She begins the next level this month in East Lansing, Mich.

Bazzano says the training is helping her move into a leasing liaison post. “I’m looking forward to taking it to the next level,” she said. That would be music to Barry Davis’ ears, say some of those who knew him, given his devotion to professional education. Davis co-founded Sun Management Corp., a New York City-based real estate investment firm, with partner Peter D. Gamar in 1979. Davis, an active member of ICSC, died in February at age 56. The scholarship is administered through ICSC’s Educational Foundation.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognize an outstanding individual and perpetuate Barry’s memory,” said Alan Smith, CLS, executive vice president of development at Konover Development, Farmington, Conn., and an organizer of the scholarship award ceremony.

Applications are now being accepted for next year’s scholarship. The forms are available online at http://www.icsc.org/srch/education/education_univlinks.php and are due in October. The winner will be announced at the New York Conference, to be held Dec. 6-8 in New York City following a dinner on Dec. 5 to raise funds for the scholarship.
