CHELSEA PROPERTY GROUP

Chelsea Property Group has completed the expansion of its flagship Japanese outlet center, Gotemba (Japan) Premium Outlets, making it the largest in that country. Gotemba, which originally opened in July 2000 and is located 60 miles west of Tokyo, is now nearly double its original size of 220,000 square feet. Chelsea added 68 new stores, including Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger, and five restaurants. The center, one of three outlets the company owns in Japan, lies midway between Mt. Fuji and the Hakone resort area.

POAG & MCEWEN

Poag & McEwen Lifestyle Centers opened the 230,000-square-foot Shops at Briargate, Colorado Springs, Colo. Among the lifestyle center’s 50 tenants are Coldwater Creek, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma. It is the sixth lifestyle center the Memphis, Tenn.-based company has opened in 17 years.

RMC PROPERTY GROUP

Tampa, Fla.-based RMC Property Group is building and redeveloping a total of five community centers with Publix supermarkets in the state. The centers that the developer is building are Publix at Miller West, Miami, to open in October; and Publix Center of St. Cloud (Fla.) and Publix at Winthrop Village, Brandon, both scheduled to open this month. RMC is redeveloping Publix at Forty East Shopping Center, Ocala, set to open in November; and Publix at Haines City (Fla.) Mall, to open in March 2004.

TANGER FACTORY OUTLET CENTERS

Tanger Factory Outlet Centers is expanding its Tanger Five Oaks, Sevierville, Tenn., about 25 miles southeast of Knoxville, by 35,000 square feet. When the company completes the expansion, which it expects to do by the end of the month, the center will total 419,000 square feet.

OLIVERMcMILLAN

OliverMcMillan will open Glen Town Center, its 470,000-square-foot entertainment and lifestyle development in Glenview, Ill., about 20 miles north of downtown Chicago, on Oct. 17. A Von Mauer department store and a Galyan’s Sports & Outdoor Adventure store will anchor the center, which broke ground in October 2002. It was built in partnership with the Village of Glenview as part of a 1,200-acre master-planned community.

EDENS & AVANT

Edens & Avant is developing two grocery-anchored centers in the Washington D.C.-Baltimore area, both of them scheduled to open in the spring of 2004. The 86,460-square-foot Arundel Village, Hanover, Md., will be anchored by a Safeway, while the 96,343-square-foot Marketplace at Potomac Station, Leesburg, Va., will have Giant Food as an anchor.

MALL PROPERTIES

Mall Properties will complete the retail renovation of Parkchester, a Bronx, N.Y., mixed-use project, this month. The New York City-based company, which manages the center’s 600,000 square feet of retail, reduced a renovated Macy’s store by 21,000 square feet and converted that space into an open-air area with seven new tenants, including Lerner New York and Motherhood Maternity.

CBL & ASSOCIATES

CBL & Associates has broken ground on the 55,757-square-foot Shoppes at Panama City (Fla.). The community center is to be anchored by a Best Buy and to have nine small-shop tenants. CBL expects to complete work in the spring of 2004.

COLONIAL PROPERTIES

The 148,000-square-foot first phase of the retail portion of Colonial TownPark, Colonial Properties Trust’s mixed-use project in Lake Mary, Fla., is scheduled for completion in November. The center will be anchored by an Amstar theater and is to include small shops and restaurants. The Birmingham, Ala.-based developer has already built 500,000 square feet of offices and 456 apartment units. An Albertsons is scheduled to open at TownPark in April 2004.

SIMON PROPERTY GROUP

The University of Texas has picked Simon Property Group to build a mixed-use project on a university-owned, 46-acre parcel in North Austin, Texas. The open-air center, to be called The Shops at Arbor Walk, will have 550,000 square feet of retail and 200 housing units. Simon said it will own and manage the retail portion of Arbor Walk and probably bring in a partner to build the housing.

 

 



URBAN RETAIL PROPERTIES

Urban Retail Properties is coordinating the development of a $300 million mixed-use project in downtown Branson, Mo., about 250 miles southwest of St. Louis. The company will lease and manage the property too. The project, to be developed by the city of Branson and HCW Development, will include 190,000 square feet of retail, a 220,000-square-foot convention center and a 300-room hotel. The retail portion is slated to open in mid-2005.

THE MILLS CORP.

The Mills Corp.’s St. Louis Mills, Hazelwood, Mo., scheduled to open Nov. 13, will include an entertainment venue called SportStreet. The venue will feature an ESPN X Games Skatepark, an ice rink and practice facility for the St. Louis Blues hockey team and a NASCAR Speedpark.
