Mills

In August The Mills Corp. opened Cincinnati Mills, formerly called Forest Fair Mall, completing a two-year overhaul. Burlington Coat Factory and Kohl’s came in as anchors. The 1.5 million-square-foot mall now boasts hardwood floors, new entrances and interior courtyards. Australia-based development firm L.J. Hooker Corp. opened the mall as Forest Fair in 1989, and Mills acquired it in 2002 from Gator Investments. Cincinnati Mills is the first center Mills has bought and renovated, rather than developing it from the ground up.

General Growth

This fall General Growth Properties will break ground on the Shops at Fallen Timbers, a lifestyle center in Maumee, Ohio, about 10 miles southwest of Toledo. Dillard’s and Parisian will anchor the 1 million-square-foot center, which was designed by KA Architecture and is slated to open in the spring of 2006.

Continental Real Estate

Work continues on two Continental Real Estate Cos. projects in Ohio: The Streets of West Chester, a mixed-use center near Cincinnati, and Parkway Centre, a power center in Grove City, outside Columbus. West Chester opened this year with 170,000 square feet of retail, including a Barnes & Noble and a Chico’s. The second phase, scheduled to open next fall, will comprise an additional 200,000 square feet of retail, 400 apartments and 300,000 square feet of offices. Parkway Centre’s 350,000 square feet of retail, scheduled to open this month, will include Dress Barn, Staples and Wal-Mart. The firm plans to open another 350,000 square feet in January.

Ferchill, TerreMark

Cleveland-based Ferchill Group and Atlanta-based TerreMark Partners plan to break ground next year on Lock 3, a 454,000-square-foot mixed-use center in downtown Akron, Ohio. The development is to include 156,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 128,000 square feet of residential lofts, 40,000 square feet of offices and a 30,000-square-foot aquarium.

Tucker

Home improvement retailer Menards and grocer Pick ’n Save will anchor the first phase of the open-air Granville Station, which is scheduled to open in Milwaukee in February. Highland Park, Ill.-based Tucker Development says it plans to complete the 320-square-foot center, a redevelopment of the former Northridge Mall, next fall.

RED Development

Kansas City, Mo.-based RED Development opened the 600,000-square-foot Village Pointe lifestyle center in Omaha, Neb. Tenants include Coldwater Creek, DSW Shoe Warehouse and Scheels All Sports.

Developers Diversified

Developers Diversified Realty launched the 97,000-square-foot Southtown Galleria in the Southtown area of St. Louis. Tenants include OfficeMax, PetsMart and Walgreens.

Jeffrey R. Anderson

Deerfield Towne Center, a 420,000-square-foot lifestyle center in Mason, Ohio, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati, opened in July. Cincinnati-based Jeffrey R. Anderson Real Estate built the project, with Bed Bath & Beyond, Borders Books and Wild Oats among the tenants.

Ikea

Bolingbrook, Ill., is the site of Ikea’s second Chicago-area store. The Scandinavian furniture chain plans to break ground on the 310,000-square-foot unit this fall, with completion set for next fall. Ikea already has a store in Schaumburg, Ill., one of 21 it operates in the United States.
