EXPANDED IRVINE SPECTRUM TO OPEN STORES BY SPRING

Stores are now opening at the expanded, 880,000-square-foot Irvine (Calif.) Spectrum Center. Most tenants should be in by the spring. Robinsons-May will anchor the lifestyle center, and other tenants include Barnes & Noble and Urban Outfitters. The Irvine Co., which owns Spectrum, is also adding 300 parking spaces.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGIONAL EXPANDS, ADDS A MACY’S

A 165,000-square-foot, two-level Macy’s has opened at The Promenade in Temecula (Calif.). The regional center, about 30 miles north of the San Diego metropolitan area, also expanded by 81,252 square feet, while an existing Robinsons-May added 35,000 square feet. All this brings the center’s total square footage to 1.05 million square feet. The center is also adding about 21 stores.

LAUTH PROPERTY GROUP EMBARKS ON INDIANA LIFESTYLE CENTER

Lauth Property Group, Indianapolis, is breaking ground on the $90 million, 520,000-square-foot Clay Terrace, Carmel, Ind. The developer expects the upscale lifestyle center’s first phase to be completed in October. The open-air project will house 450,000 square feet of retail, with an additional 70,000 square feet comprising office space. The designer is RTKL Associates, Baltimore.

NEW ORLEANS-AREA MALL RENOVATED

Covington, La.-based Stirling Properties has completed a $60 million renovation and expansion of Clearview Mall, Metairie, La., in the metropolitan New Orleans area. The remake adds 125,000 square feet to the 500,000-square-foot center, which was built in 1968. New tenants include AMC Palace Theatres, Bed Bath & Beyond and Target.

MACERICH AND ANTIOCH, CALIF., REACH MACY’S AGREEMENT

The Macerich Co. and the city of Antioch, Calif., about 30 miles northeast of San Francisco, have reached an agreement over the planned renovation of Macerich’s County East Mall, Antioch. The city will provide financial support for the $25 million renovation, which will increase the mall from 494,000 square feet to 604,000 square feet and bring a two-level Macy’s to the development.

GENERAL GROWTH OPENS OUTDOOR EATING AREA AT CALIF. CENTER

Valley Plaza, a 1.2 million-square-foot super-regional in Bakersfield, Calif., owned by General Growth Properties, has opened its Oasis Outdoor Plaza eating area, which seats more than 250.

BAYER PROPERTIES DEVELOPING EDGEWOOD IN BIRMINGHAM

Bayer Properties Birmingham, Ala., is developing the 70,000-square-foot Edgewood Town Center in Birmingham. The center, which will be anchored by Publix Grocery, is expected to open in fall 2003.
