Bebe, a women’s apparel retailer, was granted a preliminary injunction by a U.S. District Court temporarily blocking May Department Stores from selling its “be” clothing line. The court said the name is too similar to Bebe’s. … Kmart changed its logo at a prototype store in White Lake, Mich., from a red “K” to green and gray. The store has wider aisles and better lighting than other Kmarts. The bankrupt retailer, however, can’t afford a full-scale rollout, The Wall Street Journal reported. … Forest City Enterprises will break ground on 835 Market Street, San Francisco, in the summer of 2003. A lawsuit delayed the $500 million mixed-use project, which is slated to contain a 365,000-square-foot Bloomingdale’s department store and 322,000 square feet of additional retail, but an appeals court has approved the development. ... Retail sales will bounce back, General Growth Properties President and COO Robert A. Michaels recently told analysts, citing observations at ICSC’s Chicago Deal Making in October. “The energy and interest from retailers was as strong as I have seen in the last years,” he said. … Amazon.com has confirmed that it plans to sell clothing on its Web site, through a partnership with Gap, Nordstrom and Sears.
