• Shopping center executives are showing their charitable spirit by nominating each other to complete ALS Association ice-bucket challenges. The challenge involves people permitting themselves to be doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, then nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise awareness of the neurogenerative disease ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).  People can either accept the challenge or make a donation to an ALS Charity of their choice; many do both.

When Jason White of Green Street Advisors challenged DDR’s senior vice president of finance, Matt Lougee, to complete the challenge, Lougee persuaded his firm’s executive management team to join in ( SEE VIDEO HERE). DDR Corp. will also be making a donation to the charity. After completing the challenge, DDR executives collectively nominated Blackstone's real estate group, Citi Investment Research, CBRE National Retail Investment Group, and ISI's Real Estate Research Group to do it. ISI Group responded in kind (SEE VIDEO HERE), and at press time Blackstone’s video was still under production. As of Wednesday, the ALS Association had received $94.3 million in donations, versus $2.7 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to Aug. 27)
